IdaVille
- Idaville (Village) Conventional; AL: LE
- 200 g.p. limit
- Population 460 Mixed (human 80%, half-orc 10%, other 10%)
Authority Figure: Ida- Human female Wizard (some would say witch), reputedly as evil is
she is beautiful, estranged sister of Mudda the mayor of Mudville.
Background: Located north of Mudville near the Long Bone River the first thing that visitors note when arriving to Idaville is
the disturbing number of menacing scarecrows scattered throughout the region. Many are in the actual village itself. And most seem to be placed in
areas that have nothing to do with scaring away crows! In fact the greater ravens found in the region are often seen perching on the shoulders of the scarecrows, so if indeed
the straw men were placed to ward away the crows they are failing terribly!
Notable Flora & Fauna of the area:
- Greater Raven- These large black birds, are considered to be harbingers of bad news and are very common in the woods and hills surrounding Idaville.
Many people claim they are intelligent. Some say they are the eyes of Ida herself.
- MoonBats - These albino bats are very similar to normal brown bats, except under moonlight, their fur takes on an eerie glow. This light attracts insects that the bats feed upon.
- Fernwood: The fernwood is a deciduous tree native to temperate woodlands and sub-tropical forests. It resembles a giant (up to sixty feet tall) fern, and is
valued primarily for its fragrant wood, which is used in the making of the most common types of incense.
- Gall Oak: This variety of deciduous tree is indigenous to many temperate forests and mountainous regions. The blister-like galls found growing from the
bark of these trees contains a blue-black secretion, which is used in the making of inks and dyes. A single tree will generally yield up to a dozen fist-sized galls
per year, each containing about six drams of inky secretion.
- Sorcerer Tree: This rare coniferous tree is found only in isolated woodland regions. It is notable for its "mantle" of dark green foliage, which gives the tree
the semblance of a tall (10-12 feet) hooded man. The wood of the sorcerer tree is often used in the making of enchanted staves and wands, and is thought to possess magical virtues.
- Withergall: Withergall is a variety of gall oak (q.v.) native to the wastelands and other remote wilderness regions. It is similar in most respects to gall oak,
but is bent and withered in appearance, and is a favorite nesting place for avian scavengers.
